Born in: Nash County, NC
Resided in: Rocky Mount, NC

ROCKY MOUNT – Doris Brown Booth, age 103, passed away on Friday, August 1, 2025.  Born in Nash County, NC on February 5, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Richard Clyde Brown and Mary Pauline Cherry Brown.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Aucey Gray Booth, Sr.; her brothers, Horace Brown (twin), Richard Brown, Thomas Brown, Clayton Brown, and Norman Brown; and her grandson, Caleb Allen Booth.

Doris was a remarkable woman whose life was marked by resilience, faith, and a heart for others.  In her younger years, she worked diligently at Swift Company during the 1940s and 50s, helping pack meat during a pivotal time in American history.  She later embraced the calling of homemaker and poured her heart into her family and church community.  A devoted member of Lakeside Church, Doris was actively involved in her circle and became known for her thoughtful spirit.  For years, she faithfully remembered everyone’s birthday—sending handwritten cards from her home, a tradition she lovingly maintained even through the challenges of the COVID pandemic.  In 2008, at 85 years old, Doris faced a life-threatening incident when she was attacked in her own front yard.  Yet, true to her character, she recovered with strength and grace, a testament to her remarkable spirit.  Living to the age of 103, Doris was a pillar of love, kindness, and endurance—a life well-lived and deeply cherished by all who knew her.

Doris is survived by her son, Aucey “Gray” Booth, Jr. and wife, Joan; her grandson, Wesley “Andrew” Booth and wife, Brittany; and many loving nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service to celebrate Doris’ life will be held on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Dr. Libby M. Grammer, Dr. Jody Wright, and Rev. Elizabeth Edwards officiating.  Burial will follow the service at Pineview Cemetery.  Visitation with the family will be from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM prior to the service in the Atrium of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home.

The family would like to say a special thanks to staff at The Lodge of Rocky Mount and everyone at Lakeside Church.

Guestbook

  1. Kind and smart—that’s Aunt Doris. Memories of her are a blessing. The next time I do some yard work, I’ll do it with extra thought and make it extra nice—in loving memory of heroic Great Aunt Doris.

  2. Doris was a lovely woman and I so enjoyed my visits with her. She loved everyone who took time to visit her and remembered all who took the time to be with her.
