Donald “Uncle Don” Lane Williams

ROCKY MOUNT - Donald "Uncle Don" Lane Williams, age 65, passed away on Monday, November 23, 2020. Born in Nash County, NC on November 30, 1954, he was the son of the late Charles Thomas Williams, Sr. and Lucille Taylor Williams. He was also preceded in death by his beloved mother-in-law, Dorothy Cooper Brown and father-in-law, Thurman Brown; his sisters, Cleo Matthews, Margaret Ellis, Shirley Proctor and Rachel Williams; his brothers, C.T., J.D., Phillip, Glenn, Milton, and Aaron Williams; his brothers-in-law, Cecil Matthews and Ed Ellis; and his sisters-in-law, Margaret and Louise Williams. Don was a member of Pullen Memorial Baptist Church of Raleigh, where he was baptized as a young man. He began a 40-year career at Coastal Wrecker Service with E.J. Tucker in Rocky Mount and, for many years, managed Coastal Wrecker of Wilson. Don established Uncle Don's Mobile DJ and spent many years providing music and entertainment for weddings, birthday parties and other celebrations. He played at the weddings of many couples and, in later years, at the weddings of their children. In addition to family, he is survived by so many friends that he couldn't even count them, but he could count on them. He loved them and they loved him back. Don's memory will live on in the hearts of countless individuals in Rocky Mount and beyond. He touched lives and left an unforgettable impression on people. Don was one of a kind, a legend in his own time. Don is survived by his wife of 46 years, Jenelle Brown Williams; his son, Thomas Lee Williams; his grandson, Ethan Williams; his granddaughters, Ryleigh Williams and Collier Southerland; and beloved feline companion, Buddy. He is also survived by one sister, Nancy Ellis and husband, Bobby, of Rocky Mount; one brother, Dr. J. Oliver Williams and wife, Julia, of Raleigh; one brother-in-love, Phil Ellis and wife, Jan Goode, of Florence, AL; three sisters-in-law, Peggy Williams, of Rocky Mount, Patsy Williams of Cary, and Susie Kall, of Raleigh; one brother-in-law, James Proctor of Belews Creek; and many beloved nieces and nephews. A Funeral Service to celebrate Uncle Don's life on his 66th birthday will be held on Monday, November 30, 2020 at 3:30 PM in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Rev. Lutrell Spell officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 1:30 PM to 3:15 PM prior to the service in the Atrium of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home. A Private Family Burial will take place at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. Because of Covid-19, the family requests that everyone respect their wishes and wear masks and practice social distancing.   6. Jenelle, so many memories came to my mind this morning! Met Don when I started working at Ray Bandy’s in the ‘70s. Loved seeing you both over the years and getting caught up. Hard to believe he is gone! Will keep you, Thomas and all your family in our prayers!

  25. So sorry to hear. Don and I were good friends when we were growing up (circa 1969-72) and he lived with his (now that I think about it I believe it was his ) brother on Boxwood Road in Laurel Hills in Raleigh, N.C. I lived down the street on Balsam Drive. I had a small Honda motorcycle, and we used to go to the 12 mile dirt track and watch NASCAR racing (that was back in the day when they really raced). We had a lot of good times. I do remember Don wrecking his brother’s prized MG GT. Don was a great friend, as many of you already know. He certainly will be remembered.

  33. From an early age I always wanted to be like, Uncle Don! Riding dirt bikes, building model cars, playing with race tracks, you name it. Uncle Don made a huge impact in my life! Gone but not forgotten!! I love you!!

  35. I am so heartbroken to hear of the passing of Don. I’m praying for God’s peace to be upon hi family. Don was a towering support to me and my family when Buddy died. I’m so thankful to him for the support he gave to us during Buddy’s illness. His kindness and that of the Coastal Wrecker Family will forever be remembered by my family. Love y’all Eloise.

  36. Towing business’s have needs to provide so much for. And Donald’s connections with Coastal Wrecker Service did a lot!!! Not only towing, doing so much for other folks. I was involved with my own towing business from 1995 to 2014 in Raleigh, NC area, due to medical situations I had to retire. So much can take place….for sure pray, praying makes so much difference’s. The NC Towing Association who has a lot of towing companies that connected with that organization and share’s and does so much, they even share these needs to others as much as possible. God is good, they are good, and we do what’s good. Praying for the gathering during the funeral service!

  37. It doesn’t seem real, you were larger than life. I will remember you and the fun we all had. I promise to keep Jenelle busy, so she won’t be so sad. Rest easy, Don.
