Deborah Calhoun Whitley

August 16, 1948 ~ February 12, 2018

ROCKY MOUNT - Deborah Calhoun Whitley, age 69, passed away on Monday, February 12, 2018. Born in Edgecombe County, NC on August 16, 1948, she was the daughter of the late George Dempsey Calhoun, Sr. and Evelyn Taylor Calhoun. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Chris Taylor Calhoun. Deborah retired with the City of Rocky Mount as a data processor with over 20 years of dedicated service. She was a member of West Edgecombe Baptist Church. A loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, Deborah will be dearly missed and will never be forgotten. Deborah leaves behind to cherish her memory, son, Lance Whitley and Kelly Radford, of Rocky Mount; and daughter, Brigette Pridgen and husband, Sammy, of Rocky Mount. She is also survived by grandchildren, Samuel Pridgen and wife, Megan, Ashley Pridgen and fianc, Marcus Joyner, Justin Pridgen, Logan Whitley, Sara Grace Whitley, great-grandchildren, Cali Pridgen, Brooklynn Joyner, and Easton Joyner; brothers, George Dempsey Calhoun, Jr. and wife, Audrey, of Elm City, Kelly Lee Calhoun and wife, Ellen, of Rocky Mount; sister, Becky Calhoun of Rocky Mount; and several nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Deborah's Life will be held on Friday, February 16, 2018 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Rev. Joe Price officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 1:00 PM to 1:45 PM prior to the service in the Atrium of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home and other times at the home of her daughter, Brigette Pridgen, 59 Nancy Taylor Lane, Rocky Mount.   2. Deborah was my special friend from 5th grade through highschool, marriage , children and grandchildren. Deborah helped me understand diabetes when my youngest daughter was diagnosed.   7. Our thoughts and prayers are for her family and all extended family. I didn’t know her that long. I remember running into her twice at the store where she greeted me with her special smile. Always had a smile n made me feel welcome at church. Will be missing her but know she is rejoicing with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
