ROCKY MOUNT - Charles M. Killebrew, Jr., fondly known as "Charlie Boy", age 82, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, April 23, 2020. Born in Nash County, NC on October 19, 1937, he was the son of the late Charles McGuilbreth Killebrew, Sr. and Dora Grimes Killebrew. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, William Henry Killebrew and William Grimes Killebrew. Charlie was in the Army Reserve for six years. He was a life long farmer and after retirement worked for the N.C. Department of Agriculture. He was a West Edgecombe Volunteer fireman, member of West Edgecombe Ruritan Club, longtime member of Roanoke Tar River Gun Club, and distinguished member of the "Knights of the Round Table" at Wiggins Lake Store. Charlie was a man of few words, but could typically say something to make you chuckle. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his son, grandson, and friends. Charlie was a good honest man who cared about his family and friends in his community and extended family. Charlie leaves behind to cherish his memory, wife of 58 years, Joyce Radford Killebrew; daughter, Pamela "Pam" Killebrew Gould and husband, Jeff, of Rocky Mount; and son, Timothy "Tim" Scott Killebrew and wife, Melinda, of Rocky Mount. He is also survived by grandchildren, Dawson Gould, Sydney Gould, Tyler Killebrew, Garrett Killebrew; and sister, Arlene Killebrew Bunch. A Private Family Burial of Cremains will be held at Pineview Cemetery with Parker Phillips officiating. The family would like to say a special thank you to Kindred at Home, especially Brenda and Denisa for their care and the compassion of Jessica, his nurse at Nash UNC Health Care. Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services asks that during this difficult time for the safety and well-being of the family, please keep touching and contact to a minimum. We ask if you have visited outside of the USA in the last two weeks or if you are experiencing cold or flu symptoms to please wait and visit with the family at a later time. You may contact the family by email, place an online condolence on our website or give the family a phone call. Again, we understand this is a difficult time but we encourage exhibiting safety and courtesy to everyone involved in these services. The mandate from Governor Cooper includes funerals, visitations and all services, so we must limit the attendance until further notice.
