Cary Hamilton Whitaker

ROCKY MOUNT - Cary Hamilton Whitaker, III, age 77, passed away on Monday, September 26, 2016. Born in Winston Salem, NC on July 25, 1939, he was the son of the late Cary Hamilton Whitaker, Jr. and Louise Kinnear Whitaker Cary served his country proudly in the Army National Guard and retired as a Major following 35 years of service as an Artillery Officer. His dedication to service and loyalty was also apparent as he was employed for over 30 years with Sears and Roebuck Company. Through the years Cary had a joy for traveling and could be found at various campsites throughout North Carolina sharing memories and good times with his traveling buddies. He was especially proud of his service to Whitakers Chapel Methodist Church where he took charge of the Chapels fundraising activities and enjoyed sharing the history of the chapel with all those around. Cary leaves behind to cherish his memory, his two cousins Elizabeth “Liz” H. Lutz of Hillsborough and Robert Whitaker of Enfield; as well as his special friend and caregiver, James “JR” Simms, Jr. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, October 10, 2016, at 2:30 PM at the Whitakers Chapel Church, 5356 Thirteen Bridges Road, Enfield, NC 27823, with the Reverend Ted Malone officiating. Burial will follow at Whitakers Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives one hour prior to the service from 1:30 PM until 2:30 PM at the church.
