Guestbook

  1. This is from a visit I made back to Rocky Mount in October of 2014, on one of Carolyn’s good days. she always had such a great smile!

  2. Carolyn my cousin was a kind, gentle soul. She spoke softly yet deliberately, always looking you in the eye with concern and compassion even though it was she who indeed was at times suffering. She was extremely accomplished and intelligent, widely-read and yet genuinely sensitive and caring to others – her dear friends and her family. I recall a very lengthy conversation I had within the last couple of years with her as she asked about my family and we had a wonderful time catching up. Even as child she had such a love for animals and books. She loved her family dearly especially her parents and her brother Jeff and his wife Mary. God bless Carolyn as she joins those who passed before her into Heaven, and may God console and comfort Aunt Irene, Jeff, Mary and the rest of those who love her.

  3. Mary and Jeff Brantley are our dear friends so we met Carolyn when she lived in Chapel Hill after her beloved husband, Bill, died. Always a Tarheel fan Carolyn enjoyed her time living where she had good memories of her student days. After a memorable trip to London with Bill she visited with me at tea time. We had a lovely visit with Carolyn sharing highlights of the trip to the city she had come to know through literature and her love of history. Not a tourist in the usual sense, she knew the city as though she had been there many times. In recent years despite her challenges and declining health she maintained an optimism and will to continue that was inspiring to her family. Carolyn was devoted to her parents, family and always to her pets.

  4. Carolyn was my friend for over 30 years. She was such a dear, generous, caring person with a wonderful smile and a sparkle in her eyes. We met at a Charlotte law firm where we both worked for many years. We shared a love of books and often mailed packages back and forth with what we thought the other might want to read. She was my cookingbaking mentor and everyone loved her creative, delicious, comforting food. She and I both loved dogs and always talked about their funny antics, their sometimes health problems, and the precious love they gave to us every day. Although we didn’t call each other often, we kept in touch by frequent letters – yes, real hand-written letters! She was such a delight. Carolyn was also a wonderful caregiver to so many and now it is finally time for her to be taken care of and be free of pain. I am truly sorry for all her suffering over the past years and admired her greatly for her fight and stamina. I cannot believe she is gone and I will miss her every day.

  5. It is with fondness that we remember Carolyn’s smile, easy laughter, and generosity. A lover of family, cooking, cats and books, we knew her to be a kind and generous soul. Rest in peace, Carolyn. The Principe Family

  6. I remember the first really long talk I had with Carolyn when we drove together to a birthday party for Jeff and Mary. Although she was not a driver, she gave me clear navigation directions straight to the door of the restaurant. We must have discussed every book we had ever read. What an instant friend. I will miss how she always answered fully and promptly every note or card. I always felt valued by her. She had great gifts and an indomitable spirit. Blessings on all of you who will miss her forever. Gail Seybolt

  7. Carolyn was the devoted wife of my brother Bill. They were quite the pair kind, loving, deep listeners, generous friends who excelled at entertaining, loving Panda and other pets, caring for friends and family, quietly appreciating the many layers of Life’s craziness and chaos while remaining steady and genuine. Over 16 years ago I and my family were heartbroken with the unexpected death of my brother Bill. We all grieved for Carolyn’s loss too as she was an exemplary life partner for him and they genuinely loved each other. Smiling, smart, gifted, loving Carolyn I am so sorry for your health issues, pain and now passing. Brantley family I am so sorry for the isolation. I hope and pray Carolyn and Bill and Panda and her father–and any other loved ones now gone, like my husband Paul, and my parents, Gus and Mina–can rejoice as their spirits greet and dance and travel wherever God’s lights go. Love to you all. Sincerely, Maria Moessen Phone is 504-669-5619

  9. We were sorry to hear of Carolyn’s passing. She was a kind and loving person. Carolyn was especially kind to our sons when they were teenagers. Although we did not get to see her after Bill’s death we did keep in touch with notes at Christmas ad Birthdays. We are sure she is now with Bill, the love of her life. Rest in Peace Carolyn. Love, the Butz Family (Bill, Jan, Dan and Dave)
