I remember in the mid 70’s, there was a talent show at the church. First prize was $10 whole dollars! Daddy taught me how to play Master of the Sea and he played the bass part while I played the melody. Everyone was amazed) And we got $5 each, which was like 8 sodas, 20 pieces of candy, and a pack of nabs back then! He used to tickle me trying to play like Jerry Lee Lewis. He was trying to sing Whole lotta shakin’ going on, but being young, I thought he was saying A Whole lotta chicken in the barn – and so he would sing it like that and we would laugh and laugh. In the 80’s when Randy Travis was just beginning to become a name, we stood in line 7 hours at the NC State Fair to see him perform! I was never interested in guitar, but sorely wish I had taken the time to let him teach me before he became unable to play. But, I’m sure he can teach me and we can jam together in heaven some day. Maybe we’ll even get together and play Master of the Sea for Jesus! Love you, Daddy!!! See you later!

Mr. Sherrod was such a nice man and we were so sorry to learn of his passing. My son took guitar lessons from Mr. Sherrod many years ago. After about 6 months or so, he told my son that he’d taught him all he could…that it was up to him now to practice and get better. And he did practice indeed! Little did Mr. Sherrod know how important those lessons were to my son and our family. When my son lost his dad suddenly at age 14, his music became a sort of therapy for him; helping him get through the worst time in his life. He has spoken of Mr. Sherrod many times over the years and how he’d like to show him how well he can play guitar. It was so special that Mr. Sherrod shared his gifts with others and we won’t ever forget him. We are praying for strength and peace for your family. God Bless You All.
