Billy Ray Daniels

ROCKY MOUNT - Billy Ray Daniels, age 82, passed away on Thursday, March 5, 2020. Born in Martin County, NC on January 1, 1938, he was the son of the late James Robert Daniels and Lethia Harrell Daniels. He was also preceded in death by his grandson, Spenser Wayne Davis; brothers, Robert Daniels, William Daniels; sister, Shirley Daniels Boseman; brothers-in-law, Bennett, Bill and Jerry Pridgen; sisters-in-law, Louise Pridgen, Melba P. Carlisle, and Helen P. Weaver. Billy worked and retired from the City of Rocky Mount's Energy Resource Department following 22 years of loyal service. The famous quote by Paul Harvey, "So God Made a Farmer", may be the best characterization for Billy, in that through his dedication, hard work, and love for farming, he enjoyed bringing many together around the dinner table to enjoy the fruits of his labor and his famous Boston butts. Many will remember his famous saying, "if ya lookin', ya ain't cookin'". A man of great faith in the Lord, he was a longtime member of Oakdale Baptist Church, and would at a drop of the hat help anyone in need whether it was someone he knew, didn't know, or through his membership in the Rocky Mount Moose Lodge. A dedicated husband, loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather, wonderful brother and friend to many, Billy will be forever missed by all those who knew and loved him. Billy leaves behind to cherish his memory, wife of 59 years, Ruth P. Daniels; sons, Michael R. Daniels (Dawn), Ricky E. Daniels; and daughters, Ruth Anne Daniels (David Gardner), and Jeannie M. Walker (Jon). He is also survived by grandchildren, Cameron (Priscilla), Corbin, Amanda, Samantha, Chandlor, Connor, Addysen; great-grandson, Austin; brother, Randolph Daniels (Margo); sister, Rosa Pittman (Jon); brother-in-law, Elton Pridgen (Bernice); sisters-in-law, Brenda Daniels Davis (Charles) and Arlene P. Fisher; and many nieces and nephews. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, March 9, 2020 at 1:00 PM in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Rev. Paul Weaver officiating. Burial will follow the service at Pineview Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives on Sunday, March 8, 2020 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home.
