Billy James “BJ” Hunter

ROCKY MOUNT - Billy James "BJ" Hunter, age 92, passed away on Wednesday, March 18, 2020. Born in Forsyth County, NC on June 5, 1927, he was the son of the late Wesley R. Hunter and Delma Inez Campbell Hunter. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Martha Robertson Hunter; and brother, Wesley Campbell Hunter.
BJ was a WWII veteran of the United States Navy. He worked for many years at Carolina Freight Carriers. He was a Sudan Shriner with the Rocky Mount Shriner's Club for many years. BJ was also a member of Englewood United Methodist Church and the American Legion. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
BJ leaves behind to cherish his memory, sons, Samuel "Sam" Hunter and wife, Victoria Salas Hunter, and Rev. Jim Hunter and wife, Rev. Kathryn O. Hunter. He is also survived by grandchildren, Erin Steed and husband, Chris, Cammie Egan and husband, Joey, Heather Hunter, and Evie Hunter; great-grandchildren, Sarah and JT Steed, and Maya and Michael Egan.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2020 at 3:00 PM at Englewood United Methodist Church, 300 S. Circle Drive, Rocky Mount, NC 27804 on the lawn at the Bell Tower.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made Englewood United Methodist Church, 300 S. Circle Drive, Rocky Mount, NC 27804 or Shriners Hospital for Children, 950 West Farris Road, Greenville, SC 29605.
The family would like to especially thank the staff at Autumn Care of Nashville for the loving care and support they gave to their father.
