Ambler Lee Dixon

ROCKY MOUNT - Ambler Lee Dixon, age 95, passed away on Tuesday, June 29, 2021. Born in Edgecombe County, NC on August 6, 1925, he was the son of the late Jessie Dixon and Leathie Weeks Dixon. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Marie Lois Thrower Dixon; his daughter, Mary Ann Walston; brothers, Harold Dixon, Don Dixon, Larry Dixon, and Roland Dixon; and his sister, Margaret Dixon Marks. Ambler was the owner of Dixon Blind and Awning in Rocky Mount. He would go to great lengths to get to know each of his customers and deeply enjoyed working with them. A member of Sunset Avenue Baptist Church, many knew of his encouraging personality as he was everybody's cheerleader. Regardless of the task at hand, you knew Ambler was behind you every step of the way. He was an avid bowler and cherished his time spent with his family at White Lake. A devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and great friend to many, Ambler will be forever loved and deeply missed. Ambler is survived by his daughters, Shelby Dixon Poythress and husband, Dennis, of Knightdale and Katherine Dixon "Kathy" Gardner and husband, Elton, of Richmond, VA; a son-in-law Kenneth Walston of Red Oak; his grandchildren, Amber Kizer, Talmadge Gardner, Tucker Walston, Lindsey Walston, Brandon Bobbitt, and Dylan Bobbitt; his great grandchildren Cora and Jude Kizer; his brother, Alden Dixon of Conover; and many nieces and nephews. A Funeral Service to celebrate Ambler's life will be held on Friday, July 2, 2021 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Burial will follow the service at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. Visitation with the family will be from 10:00 AM to 10:45 PM prior to the service in the Atrium of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home.   1. I am so sorry for your loss. I had the pleasure of meeting Mr Dixon many years ago. I worked for Jessie Morton for years and got to know him then. Mr Dixon was the kindest, sweetest gentlemen I have ever know. I know where he is and therefore I am not going to be sad. Just know you had a fine daddy. I remember his sign Blind Man Driving it always made me laugh.

  7. Dear Kathy and Shelby – We are holding you and your families close in our hearts and in our thoughts and prayers during this sad time. Mr. Dixon was an amazing man. He was always so sweet and kind to our family. I would always think of him when we go to Rocky Mount and wonder how he was doing. Praying God will give you both comfort, strength and peace in the days, weeks, and months ahead.

  14. There are so many memories, and great ones..I can’t list them all. Mr. Dixon was a very special part of mine and my family’s life growing up. I look forward to seeing him in heaven.

  15. The Dixons lived in my neighborhood growing up and both Mr and Mrs Dixon were always so nice. My condolences to the family.

  16. We have just learned of Mr. Dixon’s death because we have been out of town visiting family. What a kind and gracious man he was. His love for family and friends will always be remembered. Please know that we are thinking of each of you and continue to think of Mary Ann. We are so sorry not to be at the visitation and service.
