Alice Barnes Robertson

Alice Barnes Robertson, age 79, passed away peacefully Wednesday, June 11, 2014. A native of Rocky Mount, she was born May 26, 1935, the daughter of Guy Earl Barnes and Alice Abernathy Barnes. She leaves behind her son, James Jeffrey Knight and wife Antonia of Austin TX; grandchildren, Dylan, Madison, Griffin, Cassidy, and Harrison; sister, Judith Barnes Agnew and husband James of Durham; and brother, Marion Barnes and wife Kathryn of Red Oak. She was also preceded in death by her husbands, James Knight and Raymond Robertson; and son, Guy Barnes Knight. She was an accomplished pianist, an outstanding scholar, and a leader by example. She generously and lovingly gave of her time and talents to her community, her church, her friends, and especially to her family. She was committed to excellence and was a fierce believer in education. In her work with the Edgecombe Community College Learning Lab, she pushed and inspired many students to achieve more than they thought they could. A service to remember Alice will be held at 11:00am Monday, June 16, 2014 at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home with Rev. Parker Phillips officiating. A committal service will follow at Pineview Cemetery. The family will receive guests 4:00pm - 6:00pm Sunday, June 15, 2014 at the home of Marion and Kathryn Barnes, 3283 Timber Creek Drive in Red Oak, NC.   2. Alice, I used to come to your mother’s house in Rocky Mount with my family when I was younger. I think the first time I visited I was 11 or 12 years old.
