Travis Gray Mullen

March 5, 1980 ~ March 1, 2023

ROCKY MOUNT – Travis Gray Mullen was born in Nash County on Wednesday, March 5, 1980, during one of the largest snowstorms in the history of the area. Travis is the son of Kenneth Gray Mullen and Debbie Estelle Dorsey Mullen. He passed away on Wednesday, March 1, 2023, at the age of 42. Travis was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Walter Gray and Clara Jean Vick Mullen, and by his maternal grandparents, James Wilson and Helen Gay Dorsey. Travis was a graduate of Rocky Mount Senior High School. He loved working with children, especially for a time, in the Upward basketball program at Englewood Baptist Church as a coach or referee. One of the great gifts God gave him was his personality. He loved to pick at his Mama and when both Travis and Shannon teamed up on her, it was an event to behold. We will miss his ability to make us laugh, even when there were times in his life that were difficult for him. We will remember the good times that God gave us with him and rejoice in the gift that was and is “T” Man. Travis is survived by his Daddy and Mama, Kenneth and Debbie Mullen; his sister Shannon Mullen Maloney and her husband Rob of Greenville; nieces, Madison Maloney of Wichita Falls, Texas and Camryn Maloney of Cary, NC; Uncle Greg Mullen and his wife Kedron of Salem, SC. and Aunt Connie Dorsey Brown of Clayton, NC. A Celebration of Travis’ Life will be held on Monday, March 6, 2023, at 3:00 PM at Englewood Baptist Church, 1350 S. Winstead Avenue, Rocky Mount, NC 27803 with Dr. Chris Aiken and Pastor Charles Taylor officiating. Visitation will immediately follow the service in the Sanctuary of Englewood Baptist Church until 5:00 PM. A Private Family Inurnment Service will take place at Rocky Mount Memorial Park Wall of Hope Niches. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Travis’ memory to the City of Refuge Foundation, 1350 S. Winstead Ave., Rocky Mount, NC 27803. Arrangements entrusted to Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 1130 N. Winstead Avenue, Rocky Mount, NC 27804. Larry and I are so very sad to hear about your handsome Travis. We remember that big snowstorm too as our son Bryan was born about 2 weeks afterwards. We also remember you coming to pray with us and how comforting it was after we lost him in 2000 when he was 20.
We agree with so many in this sad club, there is no greater loss than the loss of a child. Sorry for the hurt and pain you are feeling and know that God and the love & prayers of family and friends will see you through. Sending our deepest sympathies, love and prayers for comfort.
