Rocky Mount – Doris Joan Goellner Burns, age 92, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 20, 2026. Born in Cook County, Illinois on December 8, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Henry Goellner and Elsie Beschlayengaul Goellner. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Peter Grasich, Sr. and her son, Peter Grasich, Jr.
Doris is survived by her husband of 53 years, Roger Seibert Burns; her daughter, Gayle High (Johnny); her grandchildren, John Hardy High, III and Julia High; her sisters, Carol Goellner Engleharth and Anita Goellner Bedony; her fur baby, Willow; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dearest friends.
A Private Family Service to celebrate Doris’ life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Doris’ name to Nash Hospice and Palliative Care, 2416 Professional Drive, Rocky Mount, NC 27804.
