Viola P. Radford

Rocky Mount - Viola P. Radford, age 97, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, December 21, 2015. Born in Johnston County, NC on October 14, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Parnell and Peninah Wood Parnell. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Leslie Radford and her son, Sammy Radford. Violas faith was strong as she was a lifelong member of Calvary Baptist Church. Known as “Granny” to all she knew, her chicken salad was always a favorite amongst family and friends. Granny would welcome anyone into her home for a meal, followed by good conversation and fellowship. Filled with great-spirit and life, she remained independent and strong willed. She will be truly missed by all who had the privilege of calling her family, friend and ultimately Granny. Viola leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughter, Joyce R. Killebrew and her husband, Charles, of Rocky Mount; her grandchildren, Les Radford and his wife, Lara, of Zebulon, Pamela Gould and her husband, Jeff, of Rocky Mount, Tim Killebrew and his wife, Melinda, of Rocky Mount, Clint Radford and his wife, Shanna, of Elm City, and Kristy Radford of Clayton. She is also survived by her 6 great-grandchildren and her sister, Lucille Parnell Smith of Smithfield. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home Cremation Services with Rev. Roy Porter officiating. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at 2:00 PM at Yelverton Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Smithfield, NC.
