Samuel W. “Sammy” Bailey, Sr.

November 17, 1943 ~ May 4, 2021

SHARPSBURG - Samuel W. Bailey, Sr., age 77, known as Sammy Bailey to family and friends, passed away on Tuesday, May 4, 2021 at his home. He was born in Nash County, NC on November 17, 1943. He was preceded in death by his father, William "Floyd" Bailey; his brother, William "Gerald" Bailey; and his sister-in-law, Marlene Nichols Bailey. Sammy was a loving and faithful son, husband, father, grandfather, and family servant his entire life. Although he grew up farming, Sammy also served 36 years as a Letter Carrier with the U.S. Postal Service until retirement. Following retirement, he spent his remaining 18 years dedicated to taking care of his family's needs, gardening, and maintaining their family farm. Sammy is survived by his beloved mother, Lessie Boone Bailey; his loving wife of 59 years, Camilla Evans Bailey; his oldest son, Samuel W. "Fred" Bailey, Jr. (Nikki); his youngest son, Michael "Bryan" Bailey (Lori); and his grandchildren, Trey, Grace, Jackson, Evan, Luke, and Mia. A Graveside Service to celebrate Sammy's life will be held on Friday, May 7, 2021 at 3:00 PM at Rocky Mount Memorial Park Chapel on the Hill Mausoleum with Rev. Jimmy D. Carpenter and Rev. Allen Mills officiating. Entombment will follow the service at Rocky Mount Memorial Park Chapel on the Hill Mausoleum. The family will be available to receive friends and relatives immediately following the service in the Chapel until 4:30 PM. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the family is requesting the need for social distancing and wearing of masks due to health concerns faced around our nation at this time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Sammy's memory to Hospice of Wilson, 2130 Forest Hills Road W, Suite A, Wilson, NC 27893.   1. I was sadden to hear of Sammy passing. He was our Mail Carrier for many years at Westgate Nursing Home. There were never a time he wouldn’t have a Smile to share and words of encouragement to our staff. It was a pleasure in having known him !
