Peggy Nelms Aycock Thomas Butler

March 26, 1945 ~ January 28, 2021

WASHINGTON - Peggy Nelms Aycock Thomas Butler, age 75, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday, January 28, 2021. Born in Edgecombe County, NC on March 26, 1945, she was the daughter of the late Doris Nelms Childers. She was also preceded in death by her first and second husbands, Gurney Aycock and Ron Thomas. Peggy attended Rocky Mount City Schools. She focused on raising her family and caring for her grandchildren. Later in life, she enjoyed working with the public, and most recently was a valued staff member of Big Lots in Rocky Mount before she retired. Peggy is survived by her beloved husband, Chester Butler of Washington; son, Greg Aycock of Rocky Mount; and daughter, Robin Miller and her husband, Russell, also of Rocky Mount; grandchildren, Garrett Aycock and fianc Hayleigh, Halie Miller, Daniel Aycock, and Gracie Miller; and her uncle, James Nelms and his wife, Eunice. The Butler family welcomed her with loving arms, and she treasured her time with them. Peggy also loved her extended family of "Aycock" sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, and nephews. She cherished and valued her many friendships, as she truly never met a stranger and treated all of her loved ones like family. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, February 1, 2021 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Rev. Ronnie Peacock officiating. Burial will follow the service at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. Visitation with the family will be from 12:30 PM to 1:45 PM prior to the service in the Atrium of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home. The family would like to say a special thanks to everyone for the prayers and support during Peggy's recent illness, as well as Community Home Care & Hospice of both Greenville and Washington.   4. Rhonda and Greg sorry for your loss. It’s been a long time since I worked with Peggy at Goody’s. I’ve seen her over the years out and about and we’d try to catch up. I never met her last husband but I send my condolences to him and all of her families. She was a sweet loving lady. She could talk to anyone. She will be missed. My prayers for peace and comfort.

Physical separation is difficult but our blessed hope in Christ brings comfort that this is not a finality. Prayers to all.

  9. When friends become brothers; they share each others mother! So as my brother goes through the lost of his own; it also hurts me to the bone!! And I know I am not wrong when i say; there is so many of Ma Peggy’s kids feel the same way!!! Fly high my mother from another brother; for where you rest to us is never a wonder!!!!!

  10. I remember working with her years ago at Goodys clothing store in Rocky Mount. I loved talking and working with her. She will be missed dearly. Condolences to the family of this wonderful woman.
