Michael Christopher Hackney

ROCKY MOUNT - Michael Christopher Hackney, age 30, passed away on Friday, August 14, 2020. He was born in Nash County, NC on March 31, 1990, the son of Christopher “Chris” Glenn Hackney and Kimberly “Kim” Yvonne Cone Hackney. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Lewis Ray and Undine Viverette Wilder; and maternal grandmother, Joyce Ann Gurganus Cone. Luke 1:79 "to shine on those living in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the path of peace." Michael was blessed in such a way spoken by the words of Luke, in that anyone around him could feel the love and peace radiating from him. He believed in walking through life slowly and enjoying every moment and every blessing given. Michael was always looking out and caring for others over himself. With his presence, he could brighten up any room, put a smile on a stranger's face, or bring peace to another's heart. He saw the natural beauty of the outdoors, having created many memories from the small things in life, such as the hours spent simply riding along with his grandfather on the family tractor or riding four wheelers in the fields with his uncles. Michael used the sounds of music, a skill he learned from his father and mentor, to shine light upon others and lift their spirits. He enjoyed playing music with his Dad, brothers, friends and would many times surround himself in an abundance of musical harmony as he would write his own songs, along with other works of poetry and drawings. With his laid-back personality, Michael was a gentle giant, an old soul, who used his talents to bless those around him. A caring and loving father, son, grandson, brother, nephew, and dear friend to many, Michael will be forever cherished by all those who were blessed to have known him. In addition to being survived by his parents, he also leaves to cherish his memory his six year old son, Tristen Issac Hackney; brothers Brandon Hackney and Timothy "Timmy" Johnson both of Rocky Mount; his maternal grandfather, Wilbur Carroll “WC” Cone and his fianc, Amerlice Williams, of Rocky Mount; aunts, Beth Candler and husband, Danny, Wendy Langley, Sandra Watson and husband Johnny, and Frances Wilder; his uncle, James Wilder and wife, Karen; and numerous cousins. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, August 19, 2020 at 12:00 PM in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Pastor Lin Robinson officiating. Burial will follow the service at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. The family will receive friends and relatives on Tuesday, August 18, 2020 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home.
