Joyce was a faithful member of Benvenue Baptist Church, where her smile and joyous demeaner would always brighten your day. She could easily befriend anyone and no matter where she was, her sense of humor always had those around her laughing and smiling. Joyce made it a point to never forget a birthday, marking the day on her calendar and ensuring that the special day would arrive with a special birthday card. Her love of God was an inspiration to many, as every day began with devotion and reading from her bible. She had a love for word searches, but her greatest joy came from that of her family. Joyce cherished her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Many fond memories remain of the family trips to the beach, sharing her love for the ocean with her family through the years, or the many miles driven visiting family throughout the country. Joyce touched the lives of so many people and will always be remembered for her love and gentle kindness. A loving mother, caring grandmother and great-grandmother, and a dear friend to many, Joyce will be dearly missed and will never be forgotten.
Joyce leaves behind to cherish her memory, her sons, "Jon" Williams, and Russell "Rusty" Williams and his wife, Michelle; her two daughters, Martha Bryan and her husband, Eric, and Melody McDonald and her husband, Clarence; by her grandchildren, Johnnie Williams, IV, Nick Williams, Michael Williams, Sullivan Bryan, Spencer Bryan, Faith McDonald, Ella McDonald, and Britney Shaw; six great-grandchildren; her brother, Gurney Walker and several nieces and nephews.
Born in Nash County, NC on August 25, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Lewis Russell Walker and Carrie Baker Walker. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Linwood, and Ray Walker; and her sisters, Voce Long, Varah Butler, and Rena Jones.
