Garland “Josh” Joyner

Garland "Josh" Lee Joyner, age 86, passed away Thursday, May 05, 2011 surrounded by his family. A native of Nash County, he was born September 09, 1924 to the late Wiley Right Joyner and Ella Joyner. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Bessie Langley, Lessie Bottoms and Oley Toler; and brothers, Dennis Joyner, Joe Joyner, and Wiley Joyner. Garland served his country during World War II in the United States Army. He retired from Belk Tyler in Rocky Mount. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife of 53 years, Estelle Driver Joyner; daughter, Una Frye Waterfield of Rocky Mount; granddaughters, Mary Frye Daniel and Kim Frye Weaver and husband Gary, both of Rocky Mount; and four great-grandchildren, Cameron Ramsey, Spenser Ramsey, Caroline Daniel, and Morgan Daniel. A graveside service to remember Josh will be held at 2:00pm Sunday, May 8, 2011 at Pineview Cemetery, Section 43. Visitation with the family will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Childrens Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept 142, Memphis TN 38105. Arrangements entrusted to Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home, 1130 N.
