Evelyn Mayo Freeman

Evelyn Mayo Freeman was granted her angel wings on Thursday, September 20, 2012 at the age of 92. Her final days were spent surrounded by family and friends at Hospice of Wake County in Raleigh, NC. Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 23, 2012 at 7:00 pm at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home. A service to remember Evelyn will be held at 11:00 am Monday at the Oakdale Baptist Church with Reverend Joe Price officiating. Burial will follow at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. She was born in 1920 and is the daughter of the late Ervin and Mary Mayo in Swan Quarter, NC. She was an active member of the Oakdale Baptist Church and volunteered endlessly for school activities for her son, ‘Tuck'. She worked forty years as an Avon representative in Rocky Mount, NC and built a huge family of friends. She was called ‘mom' by many. She is survived by her sons and their spouses, Tommy Freeman, Jr., and wife, Connie Freeman, and son, Alton Freeman, and wife, Mary Ann Freeman; grandchildren, Justin Freeman, Ellen Freeman, Gwen Freeman Murray, Alton Freeman, Jr., Charlie Freeman, Daniel Freeman, and Erin Freeman; and many great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tommy Tucker Freeman, Sr., parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Mayo; brothers, Troy Mayo, Roy Mayo, Ervin Mayo, Jr., Rayfield Mayo and Norwood Mayo; and sisters, Louise Mayo Stokes and Helen Mayo Slappey.
