Eugene "Gene" Neal Avery

ROCKY MOUNT – Eugene “Gene” Neal Avery, age 75, passed away at Nash UNC Health Care on Sunday, March 10, 2024. Born in Monticello, NY on August 15, 1948, he was the son of the late Philip Ira Avery and Josephine Marie Barnum Avery. Gene attended Monticello High School and graduated cum laude from State University of New York at Albany with a BS in accounting. Upon the completion of military service with the Naval Reserves, he began his lifelong career as an accountant. Gene was an avid gardener, enjoyed the beach and was a volunteer with Friends of Rocky Mount Animals. Gene is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Patricia “Pat” Sniffin Avery; his sister, Linda Cosco and her companion, George Kinch, of Monticello, NY; his sister-in-law, Kathleen Tuthill of Reston, VA; his nephew, Christopher Tuthill of Leesburg, VA; his niece, Jennifer Maresca of Leesburg, VA; an aunt; several cousins; and his beloved dog, Dobie. A Celebration of Gene’s Life will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Visitation with the family will be from 1:00 PM to 1:45 PM prior to the service in the Atrium of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home.
